...I've run over my cell phone.  Perhaps multiple times, as I'm uncertain at which point in loading children in and out of the car to drop off and pick up them up at school that it fell from my pocket onto the driveway beneath the car....

It would actually be pretty funny if I didn't have to go buy a new one....  ;-P

seasonal rant

I really should not say this lest I be considered a waspish and overbearing stick-in-the-mud, but I'm cranky today and this always bugs me: Halloween is in October, on the LAST freaking day of October, for that matter, so people should at least wait until the first of October to put out their Halloween decorations!!!!!!!!!!!!!  For heaven's sake, it's bad enough that the grocery stores have had bags of Halloween candy for sale since the third week of August, but do people have to give in to the demands of our pathetically market-driven culture and put out their grisly decor before it's even the month of the event??

That said, I have no objection whatsoever to autumn-themed house and yard embellishments, I think those are fine, because it is autumn.  It's just all the premature Halloween stuff that annoys me...

As I said, I should keep my peeves to myself...  I don't mean any slight to people who do put out their Halloween stuff early; my neighbors down the way who have their yard done up as a most unpleasantly gruesome graveyard are very nice people.  It's more the painfully obvious manifestation of my country's consumer-oriented mindset that bothers me most about it.

I bought a package of crumpets at the store recently and this morning I decided to actually eat one.   Hot from the toaster and generously buttered...ooh, it was lovely!  I'm not sharing the rest of the pack with the family.  ;-D  Haha, it reminds me of the scene from the film "The Importance of Being Earnest" in which Colin Firth and Rupert Everett are fighting over the basket of muffins.  I always get a good laugh out of that part!  Once when my husband and I were watching it and we came to that bit, we had to stop and go toast ourselves some english muffins because of the fellow muffin-hunger the scene inspired.  ;-)  Now I always crave a cinnamon-raisin english muffin when I think of that movie, hee.

I've just discovered that I can purchase tickets online to attend the Dayton Philharmonic's performance of Beethoven's 9th symphony in a few weeks.  (I love that one, it would be such a treat to attend a live performance!)   I just have to talk the hubby into letting me buy an inexpensive seat and allowing me to abandon him with the kids on a Friday evening...

surfacing to give a little update

Hey everyone!  I've missed you all!  Unfortunately, LJ is completely off the radar for me anymore (it's a rare event when I actually manage to send an e-mail, or do more than check the weather or googlemap something online), so I'll be submerging back into oblivion again after this entry.

Before I get to the interesting news, I'll just say that I did manage to see AWE, and I did cry (yes, in the theatre) when Swann and Norrington died.  *sigh*  There was no place for them in that dark and twisted world.  In general I thought the entire film was rather melancholy and bittersweet.

Now the exciting news.  :-)  I have an itty-bitty typing assistant with me - my new little girl, Vera Gail.  :-)  She is a week old now; she was born on June 26th at 1:52 PM and weighed 5 pounds 11 ounces.  Her name is pronounced 'Vara', like 'Sarah' with a 'V', not 'Veera'.  She's a sweetie, and I'm so happy to have a little girl.  :-)  Pictures are behind the cut.

Oh, and we've moved to Ohio.  It's pretty nice here -humid, but we're adjusting, and we have lots of nice neighbors.

Wooohoooo!!!!  I managed to make an icon!!!  *gringringrin*  *squeees and bounces in the chair*

It's absolutely horrible, but I'm so extremely proud of myself that I'm going to use it anyway.  Till I make it better or make a different one that's equally rubbish.  :-D

Umm, let's see if I can put in in here now to show off my first extremely mediocre icon.  :-D  Oh, by the way, it's inspired by a tidbit from "Master and Commander" that I found wonderfully amusing, but I doubt anyone else really would (because I'm exceptionally easily amused), and it won't make any sense whatsoever to someone who hasn't read the book... So no one will be sad that it's horrid, since no one will use it but me, ha!!  :-D

I have a very important question:  Does anyone know or have any idea how to find out if the white chocolate M&Ms will be coming back out?  (Remember the "Pirate Pearls" *cough*RNotCM&Ms*cough*?)  I really really really really really want some...I'm hoping it's not too optimistic to think "Pirate Pearls" might come back for AWE.  Anybody?

And my husband has left for Air Force Officer Training.  :-(  (Hence the chocolate craving above..)  :-(  *sigh*  When I eventually crawl out from under my moping rock sometime later this week I'll try to start catching up on everything.  And I hope everyone who was ill, hurting, stressed, or otherwise in need of relief and a hug is doing better.  :-)

Now I'm off to comfort myself with M&C, some cocoa and a nap.  And tissues.  :-(

Repeated "Master and Commander" squee!!  :-D  I just love it!  And I ought to just buy the book before I pay for it in overdue fines...  *note to self to re-check it out online*  Patrick O'Brian is just so awesome, I love the way he writes!

More "Hornblower" squeeing!  :-D  The more episodes I watch, the more I love it.  Except the only problem with watching Hornblower is that then I have dreams that I'm dating Ioan Gruffudd  (now that's *obviously* a fantasy!!).  *g*

Getaway squee!!!  :-D  My husband and I are going away for two days together (our last little trip together before he's off for twelve weeks to officer training in Alabama), and are leaving tomorrow.  :-DDD  (Huzzah, someone else will cook and wash the dishes for two days, yay!!  My poor husband probably thinks that's most of the reason I'm looking forward to going, which it really isn't, but that will be so nice.)  I will catch up on fics when I return.  :-)

A very silly fic

Current Music: "I'll Fly With You" - Gigi D'Agostino
This was inspired by discussion of AWE spoilers (and is also a poor effort to cheer those disturbed by them).  :-)  It's pathetic, I promise you.  (You've been warned.)  :-)

However, it does NOT contain any spoilers.  :-)

Dedicated to all true Naval fans who know that our boys are really off sailing about on the Dauntless, blissfully unaware of these crazy sequels...

Title:  An Improbable Interruption
Characters:  the Navyboys, the Marines, Governor Swann
Summary: rambling silliness in which poor James cannot manage to finish a single sentence.
Rating:  PG for a swear word or two
Disclaimer:  Disney owns PotC and its characters, though they ought to be shot for what they do to them.

For anyone who wants to see my kitty.  :-)  (The picture was taken from above her, she's not really that squatty - or plump, she just has very thick fur.)  :-)  Her name is Bessy (because she is white and black like a cow, and her previous owner was really into cow decor).

***SPOILER WARNING!!!!!***

Over at the IMDB message board for AWE I found a link to an amusing YouTube video purportedly full of AWE spoilers - in code.  So, I've made a transcript of it for anyone interested.  :-)  The transcript and link to the video are behind the cut.

Now you've been warned about spoilers, don't anybody click on the cut and then whine to me about not wanting to read spoilers...  ;-)

Current Music: Far Away - Nickelback
Merry Christmas to everyone!!  :-)  My gift to you all is this fic (amazingly, I have a fic written in time for Christmas!), which has actually been a work-in-progress for about nine months, so it's time it was posted!  (I did post the first part long ago, but it's been edited and is different now.) The fic is a bit angsty, but it ends nicely, I promise.  :-)  Oh, and there are three parts to it, but it's all posted together because it's just easier to do it that way.

Dedicated to [info]galadhir.  A million thanks and a ton of hugs for your ever-patient (and most excellent) betaing, and for all the encouragement.  :-)  I would have never finished this fic without you.  :-)

Title: Shadows of a Storm
Characters: Norrington, Gilette, Swann
Summary: set post-CotBP, pre-DMC (or ignoring it entirely) - and James is having a tough time.
Rating:  PG
Disclaimer:  Disney owns PotC and all the characters, etc.

(by the way, my sincerest apologies to those who have naval communities on their flist, because this will show up multiple times as crossposting still eludes me...after a whole year on LJ...pathetic, I know.  Very sorry about that.)
